Integrate Bytechat on your WordPress website

Adding Bytechat to WordPress works differently depending on which version you use. Choose the correct instructions below.

Which WordPress version do I have?

There are two different WordPress platforms:

  • WordPress.org - Self-hosted version. You have your own hosting and full control.
  • WordPress.com - Hosted service by Automattic. URL often ends with .wordpress.com (unless you've connected your own domain).

Not sure? Log in to your WordPress dashboard and look at the top left corner. WordPress.com often displays a "WordPress.com" logo, while WordPress.org only shows "WordPress".

Option 1: WordPress.org (Self-hosted)

If you self-host WordPress, you can choose from two methods:

Method A: Bytechat Plugin (Recommended)

The easiest way - our own plugin.

  1. Go to our WordPress plugin page and download the .zip file.
  2. Log in to your WordPress dashboard.
  3. Navigate to Plugins → Add New → Upload Plugin.
  4. Select the downloaded .zip file and click Install Now.
  5. Click Activate.
  6. Go to the new Bytechat menu item in the sidebar.
  7. Get your Chatbot ID from your Bytechat dashboard (Account tab).
  8. Paste the ID in the input field and click Save.

Method B: WPCode Plugin

Alternative - use the popular WPCode plugin to add the script.

  1. In your WordPress dashboard, go to Plugins → Add New.
  2. Search for "WPCode" and install the plugin "WPCode – Insert Headers and Footers".
  3. Activate the plugin.
  4. Go to Code Snippets → Header & Footer.
  5. Get your installation code from your Bytechat dashboard (Account tab).
  6. Paste the complete code in the Body field.
  7. Click Save Changes.

Option 2: WordPress.com (Hosted version)

⚠️ Note: For WordPress.com, you need at least a Business plan ($25/month) to add custom JavaScript. On lower plans (Free, Personal, Premium), this is not possible.

If you have a Business, Commerce, or eCommerce plan:

  1. Log in to your WordPress.com dashboard.
  2. Go to Plugins → Add New.
  3. Install a code injection plugin like "WPCode" or "Insert Headers and Footers".
  4. Get your installation code from your Bytechat dashboard (Account tab).
  5. Paste the code in the Footer or Body section of the plugin.
  6. Save and publish.

Have a lower plan? Consider upgrading to Business, or migrate to a self-hosted WordPress.org installation for full control and lower long-term costs.

Verification

Regardless of which method you used, you can now go to your website to check if Bytechat is correctly integrated. You should now see the chat window appear in the bottom right corner of your website.

Congratulations! You've successfully integrated Bytechat on your WordPress website. You can now start monitoring conversations and optimizing performance through your dashboard.
